PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the position of a workpiece without using any imaging device. SOLUTION: The spot welding system includes: a physical quantity detecting means 24a for detecting a physical quantity that is in correlation with torque or speed of a servo motor 24 for driving a movable electrode; position detecting means 13a, 24a for detecting the position of a pair of electrodes 21, 22; a mode switching means 6 for switching an operation mode; and processing means 3, 4 for carrying out spot welding processing in a spot welding mode and position correction processing in a position correction mode. When switched to the position correction mode, the processing means 3, 4 control a spot welding gun 2 and a robot 1 so that a movable electrode 21 abut on the surface of the workpiece, and determine whether or not the movable electrode 21 abuts on the surface of the workpiece on the basis of a detection value of the physical quantity detecting means 24a, thus a workpiece position is calculated on the basis of the detection value of the position detecting means 13a, 24a at that time.
