The device has a receiving lens (3) for projecting an image of an object (O) at a position (X) of a space-resolved detector (5) i.e. charge coupled device (CCD) camera. The lens has a meniscus (7) with a convex inlet surface (9) and a concave outlet surface (11), and optical axes are provided similar to surface normals at a middle of the inlet and outlet surfaces. The axes are arranged and radii of curvatures of the surfaces are determined such that light radiations (RO) reflected at the meniscus by the object produce angle reinforced refraction and collimation. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a distance measuring device.
