1,268,108. Brightening textile materials. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO., Ltd. 8 Sept., 1969 [12 Sept., 1968; 14 Sept., 1968], No. 44358/69. Heading D1P. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Textile materials are optically brightened by the application of compounds of the formula: in which X is a morpholino or alkanolamino radical and M is hydrogen or an alkali metal. It is preferred to combine brightening with the application of a resin finish by treating the substrate with an aqueous composition comprising the optical brightener, a resin precondensate and a condensation catalyst. Specified resins include urea, melamine, glyoxalurein, triazone and polyvinyl derivatives. The composition may be applied by conventional techniques and the treated substrate subjected to heat treatment, e.g., at 80-200‹C. The brighteners may be applied to fibres, yarns, threads, knitted or woven fabrics of natural or artificial cellulosic or synthetic textile materials. Examples 4-9 describe the brightening and finishing of cotton, polyamide, vinylenerayon and polyester-rayon fabrics. |
