<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine having cloth volume detecting means for accurately detecting the cloth volume within a drum. <P>SOLUTION: The washing machine includes: a starting step for increasing the rotation of the drum 3 at prescribed time acceleration αa(t) from the motionless state by a motor 7; a first detection step for accelerating the rotation of the drum at an acceleration torque α1 after the starting step and measuring the time t1 in which the rotational speed increases by ΔN1; and a second detection step for decelerating the rotation of the drum at a deceleration torque α2 by the motor after the first detection step and measuring the time t2 in which the rotational speed decreases by ΔN2. The relations between the time acceleration and the acceleration torque in a time tx during the starting step are set to satisfy the formula: αa(tx)>α1 to stabilize adhesion of clothes. By measuring the fabric volume by using both of the angular acceleration α1 in the next first detection step and the angular acceleration α2 in the second detection step, irregularity in the friction torque of a drum rotation shaft is offset and the effect of the irregularity in the friction torque is suppressed, to allow further accurate detection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
