POLYELECTROLYTE AND ITS APPLICATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyelectrolyte capable of going into pores of catalyst.

SOLUTION: The polyelectrolyte is used for a catalyst layer forming material for a fuel cell and is a random copolymer which is constituted of constituent units containing proton conductive groups and constituent units not containing the proton conductive group, in which the constituent units containing the proton conductive groups have side chains into which sulfonic acid groups are introduced, and in which, provided that the number of the constituent units containing the proton conductive groups is made m and the number of the constituent units not containing the conductive group is made n, 3≤m+n≤100 and 0.1≤m/n≤10 are satisfied.
