<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nip roll for manufacturing a polarizing film with excellent durability, which inhibits cutting of a polyvinyl alcohol-based film, and to provide a method for manufacturing the polarizing film using this nip roll. <P>SOLUTION: At least the surface of the nip roll is a rubber layer composed mainly of EPDM which contains a carbon black and is vulcanized with a peroxide. The polyvinyl alcohol-based film is subjected to a swelling treatment, a dyeing treatment, a boric acid treatment, a water washing treatment and a drying treatment in that order. In addition, prior to the swelling treatment, dyeing treatment and boric acid treatment among the treatments, and/or during at least one treatment among the swelling treatment, dyeing treatment and boric acid treatment, the polarizing film is manufactured by stretching a film through making a circumferential speed difference between the two nip rolls for conveying the film.
