PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which prevents image shifting, while suppressing power consumption, without causing deterioration of the image. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 1 includes: a camera-shake correction mechanism 9 for correcting a camera-shake by moving an imaging element 7 in a plane orthogonal to the optical axis direction of a photographic optical system 3 by electrical holding; and a holding mechanism 10 which is made into a holding state where the imaging element 7 is held by mechanical holding, when the camera-shake correction mechanism 9 is not operated. When the holding mechanism 10 has a positioning mechanism to energize in a release state, a holding member (22) with an elastic member (27) in order to position a holding position of the imaging element 7 in a holding state to an original position by electrical holding and the imaging apparatus 1 is started up, a shift eliminating operation (step S1→step S2) for making the holding mechanism 10 into a released state and then making the holding mechanism 10 into the holding state is performed.
