PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a baked pencil lead for French chalk which can write on cloth, has good fixation of a written line thereof, excels in the erasability of the written line by washing with water or the like, and hardly changes the pencil lead and the written line with time, and excels in storage stability thereof by impregnating the pores of a baked lead body baked at high temperatures with a nonionic surface active agent. SOLUTION: The baked pencil lead for chalk is obtained by impregnating the pores of a graphite-containing lead body baked at high temperatures with a nonionic surfactant having at least an HLB of 8-20.
