PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for compensating a torque change of a rotary table for a machine tool are provided to compensate the torque of a rotary table rotating unit in real time despite changes in the shape and weight of a work piece. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for compensating a torque change of a rotary table for a machine tool comprises a rotary table rotating unit(400), a torque detecting unit, a torque compensation load transfer unit(100), a load position detecting unit, and an NC(Numerical Control) unit. The rotary table rotating unit rotates a rotary table(T) around a rotary shaft. The torque detecting unit detects the torque of the rotary table caused by misalignment between the center of gravity of a work piece and the rotary shaft of the rotary shaft. The torque compensation load transfer unit transfers a torque compensation load(140) in the radial direction of the rotary shaft. The load position detecting unit detects the transfer position of the torque compensation load. The NC control unit detects and stores torque according to the position of the torque compensation load and detects the position of the torque compensation load where torque becomes the minimum.
