PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion/contraction operation device reduced in a production cost by lessening the number of parts and forming a first pipe in a small diameter, improved in handling properties through reduction in size and weight, and allowing even an elderly person or a child with weak grasping power to easily operate by reducing operation resistance of an operation lever. SOLUTION: This expansion/contraction operation device includes a switching rod 43 which is internally installed in a first pipe 2 as a first operation force transfer means 40, regulated in movement to the end of the first pipe 2 by a first regulating part 44, and always biased to the end of the first pipe 2 by a first biasing tool 45, a first switching member 46 which is connected to the end part of the switching rod 43 so as to be positioned in the end part of the first pipe 2, a connection rod 47 which connects the first switching member 46 and an operation lever 5, and a first operation rod 48 which is internally installed in a second pipe 3, regulated in movement to the end of the second pipe 3 by a second regulating part 49, and always biased to the end of the second pipe 3 by a second biasing tool 50, and whose middle part is arranged so as to face with the first switching member 46.
