Disclosed is a magnetic sensor using a magnetoresistive effect element which can simply and correctly detect a perpendicular magnetic field component. The Z-axis magnetic sensor (1) has: the magnetoresistive effect element (S), which is formed by laminating a magnetic layer and a nonmagnetic layer on a substrate (2), and which has magnetoresistive effects; and a soft magnetic body (3), which converts a vertical magnetic field component (H1) from the outside into magnetic field components (H2, H3) in the horizontal direction, applies the thus converted magnetic field components (H2, H3) in the horizontal direction to the magnetoresistive effect element (S), and which is not in contact with the magnetoresistive effect element (S).
