PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to reduce rear transfer blur by decreasing an amount of curve in a transfer material when the transfer material is released from an entrance guide member, regardless of the degree of stiffness of the transfer material. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a guide member 14 for guiding the transfer material toward a guiding target point upstream of a transfer nip entrance start point in the moving direction of the transfer material on the entrance side of a transfer nip part N formed by rollers 2C and 9A opposite to each other with a belt 2 therebetween; and an abutting member 20 which abuts on the inside of the belt 2 upstream of the transfer nip part N in the moving direction of the belt 2 and can change the abutting position of the belt 2 toward the roller 9A outside the belt 2 according to the thickness of the transfer material based on a tangent (X) serving as a reference, which is formed in the position where the rollers forming the transfer nip part N are disposed opposite to each other.
