A display apparatus (100) comprises a liquid crystal panel (101) having a display surface (101a), a display housing (110) which houses therein the liquid crystal panel (101) with the display surface being exposed and which can hold the display surface (101a) in an upright position, a light receiving window (102) which is provided in an array with the portion of the display housing (110) in which the display surface (101a) is exposed and which is located more inwardly than the surface of the display housing (110) at an edge of the portion in which the display surface (101a) is exposed, to receive external light, and an illuminometer (104) which detects the illuminance of light made incident through the light receiving window (102) and which has a detection range having a center directing more downwardly than the direction of a normal line to the display surface (101a).
