Provided are a video display device, a shutter glasses, a video display system, and a communication method, capable of reducing a consumed power. The shutter glasses is provided with a shutter for transmitting or blocking a video displayed at a predetermined display cycle on a video display device, by an opening/closing operation on the basis of control information; a clock counter (261), a reception unit (RF communication unit (234), reception side count value latch circuit (262), reception side count value holding units (464a, 464b), count value acquisition unit (263), and transmission side count value holding units (465a, 465b)) which acquires, as a reception time count value, a value of the clock counter when a transmission time count value is received from the video display device, the transmission time count value being on the basis of the value of a built-in clock counter of the video display device; and a control unit (power source control unit (443)) for setting an intermittent reception time slot for the reception unit to receive the control information from the video display device on the basis of the transmission time count value and the reception time count value.
