PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element having superior light-emitting characteristics and life characteristics, and a display device as well as an electronic equipment having excellent reliability equipped with this light-emitting element. SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 1 includes: an anode 3; a cathode 8; a first light-emitting unit 9 installed between the anode 3 and the cathode 8, and including at least one layer of light-emitting layer; a second light-emitting unit 10 installed between the cathode 8 and the first light-emitting unit 9, and including at least one layer of light-emitting layer; and a carrier generating layer 7 installed between the first light-emitting unit 9 and the second light-emitting unit 10. This carrier generating layer 7 includes an n type electron transport layer 7a containing alkaline metal oxide and electron transport materials, and an electron extraction layer 7b containing an organic cyanide compound having an aromatic ring.
