PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily recognize that HD broadcasting is tuned even when SD broadcasting is automatically switched to the HD broadcasting in a television receiver. SOLUTION: When a user tunes a channel (S11), the TV receiver acquires NIT information (S13), and determines whether or not there is switching instruction information for the tuned channel in the acquired NIT information (S14). When there is the switching instruction information, that is for a channel of the SD broadcasting to be switched to a channel of the HD broadcasting (YES in S15), the TV receiver switches to the channel of the HD broadcasting and tunes it, and receives and displays a TV program (S16). Then, a message indicating that the TV receiver has switched to the channel of the HD broadcasting and a message for urging a user to select which of the channel of the SD broadcasting and the channel of the HD broadcasting is to be registered in a channel list are displayed (S17).
