PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote effective utilization of water caltrop by extracting the active ingredients from the whole of the water caltrop, and using the extract as a crude drug. SOLUTION: The crude drug contains the extract obtained by extracting a fruit, a leaf, a stalk, a stem or a water root of the water caltrop with an extraction solvent as an active ingredient. The crude drug can be provided more inexpensively compared to the case of obtaining the crude drug by using only the fruit of the water caltrop by reducing the material cost low because the essence is extracted by using not only the fruit of the water caltrop but also the leaf, the stalk, the stem or the water root of the water caltrop. The crude drug largely contributes to the health maintenance or the like of human beings by being used as a material component for a medicine, a health-assistant food or a cosmetic.
