The invention relates to a security element (1) for a security paper, value document or the like, comprising a carrier (9) having a reflective surface area (3) which is subdivided into a plurality of reflective pixels (5), wherein the surface of each pixel (5) is smaller than the surface of the reflective surface area (3) by the order of one magnitude, each pixel (5) comprising at least one reflective facet formed in a surface of the carrier. According to the invention, the at least one reflective facet reflects light that shines along a predefined direction on the surface area (3) in a direction of reflection predefined by the orientation of said facet. The orientations of the facets of different pixels (5) present an essentially random variation over the reflective surface area. |
