PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device improving adaptability of adaptive control algorithm by adjusting frequency of pseudo vibration to frequency of vibration to be damped even if the frequency of the vibration to be damped is erroneously recognized as frequency different from the actual frequency, and improving damping property and stability. SOLUTION: Offset vibration Vi4 is generated in a position to be damped through an excitation means 2 based on the calculation value of the pseudo vibration Vi3' required for offsetting vibration Vi3 transmitted from a vibration generating source gn to the position to be damped by the use of the adaptive control algorithm, and vibration remaining as an offset error between the generated offset vibration Vi4 and the vibration Vi3 is detected. A frequency correction means 35 is provided for correcting frequency recognized by a frequency recognition means 31 to a direction eliminating a phase difference based on the phase difference between the phase of the vibration remaining as the offset error and the phase of the offset vibration Vi4.
