The four-stroke engine has a cylinder head (ZK) and a heat exchanging area (M) that surrounds a combustion chamber. The heat exchanging area is arranged between walls of an operating cylinder (Z) and the cylinder head. A composite area is provided between the combustion chamber and lower piston chamber. An injection element is attached at the heat exchanging area. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a four-stroke engine.
