PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill processor that easily detects an accumulation failure of bills in a temporary retention part. SOLUTION: The bill processor includes: a deposition part 12 feeding deposited bills; a discrimination part 30 discriminating bills fed from the deposition part 12; a temporary retention part 32 retaining bills discriminated as normal by the discrimination part 30; a storage part 40 storing the bills retained in the temporary retention part 32; a return part returning the bills retained in the temporary retention part 32; a detection means 53 detecting a bill located at a predetermined height position in the temporary retention part 32; and a control means 55 comparing the number of retained bills retained in the temporary retention part 32 with a predetermined threshold when the detection means 53 detects a bill, and if the number of retained bills is smaller than the threshold, determining an accumulation failure and stopping feeding from the deposition part 12 while returning the bills in the temporary retention part 32 via the return part.
