PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and manufacturing method thereof are provided to increase CR efficiency and response speed. CONSTITUTION: A first common electrode(22) is formed on a first substrate(20) of a pixel unit and is electrically connected to a common wire. A passivation layer(24) is formed in a first substrate area. A reference electrode(23) and a pixel electrode(26) are formed on the passivation layer. A lower part vertical alignment layer(28) is formed in the first top of the substrate. A second substrate(30) is formed while facing in the first substrate.
