PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass welding method for producing a welded glass article having high reliability. SOLUTION: A glass layer 3 is melted by irradiating a laser beam having a first input heat quantity along a planned welding area R. When the melt ratio of the glass layer 3 in a direction nearly perpendicular to the moving direction of the laser beam L1 reaches nearly 100%, the input heat quantity is changed and a laser beam having a second input heat quantity smaller than the first input heat quantity is irradiated along the planned welding area R to melt the glass layer 3, and glass members are welded through the glass layer 3. In the case of melting the glass layer 3, laser light absorbency of the glass layer 3 rapidly increases when the melt ratio of the glass layer 3 reaches nearly 100%.
