PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a structure which enables smooth and quick mode change between a low speed mode and high speed mode with a simple structure. SOLUTION: One clutch (a low speed clutch or a high speed clutch) that is connected on a mode change is temporarily connected according to operation condition at that moment before starting the mode change. Specifically, the one clutch is kept in a temporarily engaged state by setting the gear ratio of the toroidal type continuously variable transmission to a state of 0.6 or lower for example in speed increasing ratio and by setting the duty opening of a solenoid valve controlling the engagement and disengagement states of the one clutch to 14% for example.
