PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly perform transition from a display screen other than live view to a live view screen without depending upon a difference in an AF (automatic focusing) system. SOLUTION: The imaging device has a live view function for sequentially displaying a photographed image. AF control of a system that accompanies a mirror-down operation of a movable mirror and AF control of a system that does not require the mirror-down operation are possible, and during display on live view screen, transition can be performed to a screen other than live view with mirror-up performed as it is. When a start instruction of the AF control is performed (S1004), an AF system at the present time is determined (S1005), and when a determination result is an AF system (for example, a phase difference detection system) that accompanies a mirror-down operation, a display screen is transited to a live view screen without performing a mirror-down operation (S1007). Further, when the determination result is an AF system (for example, a contrast system) that does not accompany a mirror-down operation, the display screen is transited to the live view screen (S1006) to perform AF control (S1008).
