The method involves producing light by detection light sources (11, 15) e.g. infra-red light and an LED, in a detection mode of lighting systems (6, 7). An image of a front end-environment (8) of a vehicle (1) is recorded by a detector unit (12) in active condition of the sources. Another image is recorded when the source operates with reduced light output in comparison to an active operation. The latter image is compared with the former image, where comparison result is considered to determine whether light source of an object not to be dazzled is found in a vehicle prefield-environment. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system for detecting a light source of a vehicle-external object in an image recorded by a detector unit.
