In a fluid pressure regulator which has a supply line 9, 10, 11 terminating in a nozzle 12, flow to an outlet 15 is controlled by a hinged plate 19, the hinge being constituted by a portion of the plate which is of reduced thickness and which is disposed adjacent the plate anchorage point 16. In the fully-closed state of the valve, both the topmost face of the plate 19 and the periphery of nozzle 12 lie in the same plane C-D, thus providing a leak-proof closure of the flow path. The nozzle is disposed within, and opens into an inlet/outlet chamber 38 which under normal operation of the valve is in communication with a bellows B defining a further chamber 39. The topmost end 30 of the bellows B is subjected to the adjustable force of a spring 31 and has depending therefrom a spindle 2, with a portion of the spindle being disposed within chamber 39 and a portion being disposed, with clearance, within a passage 6 affording the communication between the two chambers. Formed at the free end of the spindle 2 is a projection 17 which, to a variable degree, is disposed within a port 18 formed in the plate 19 and which can engage a bi-metallic strip 37 secured in spaced relationship to the plate 19. In operation, a reduction in pressure within chamber 39 results in the spindle moving downwardly and hence in plate 19 being displaced from the terminal end of nozzle 12 so increasing the degree of communication between the inlet leading to, and the outlet leading from chamber 38. In the event of the valve being subjected to a temperature increase and hence the spring 31 becoming softened, the bi-metallic strip bends towards the plate 19 and so, in conjunction with the spindle terminal portion 17, acts as a compensator which nullifies any changes in the characteristics of spring 31 and so also ensures proper positioning of the plate 19 under varying pressure conditions.
