<p>A vehicle axle (200) includes an axle housing defining a cavity (216). The axle (200) includes a pair of outer drive shafts (220), each being coaxially received in a respective housing cavity (216) and slidable therein, each outer drive shaft (220) defining a splined cavity (227). The axle (200) includes a pair of inner drive shafts (230), each having a splined end (232) coaxially coupled to a respective outer drive shaft splined cavity (227) such that a respective outer drive shaft (220) is slidably movable therein. A piston (228) is attached to the inner end (224) of each outer drive shaft (220) and separates an inner fluid chamber (240) from an outer fluid chamber (242). A fluid channel (244) includes opposed ends (246, 248) in communication with respective fluid chambers (240, 242). A force absorption container (250) is in fluid communication with each fluid channel (244) and includes a compression spring (252), wherein the spring (252) is compressed when movement of the piston (228) pushes fluid through the channel (244) into the force absorption container (250).</p> |
