DETECTING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR OPTICAL LINE IN PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An optical line monitoring apparatus and method in a PON are provided to grasp the accurate failure location of an optical fiber line regardless of the branch distance of ONTs. CONSTITUTION: A status information extracting unit(101) extracts the status information of ONTs(Optical Network Terminals)(109). A network management unit(102) extracts the MAC(Medium Access Control) address of the ONT with the extracted status information. A controller(103) creates the failure point measurement command of an optical line connected to an ONT in which a failure occurs. According to the measurement command of the controller, a distance measuring unit(104) makes generated monitoring light received to the downlink optical line port of an OLT(Optical Line Terminal)(105). The distance measuring unit receives light reflected at the failure point of the optical line.
