Lubricating oils with improved props. are obtd. by contacting, under hydrogenation condits., with a catalyst comprising a group VIII metal deposited on a support consisting of a cation-free mordenitic zeolite. Spec., the catalyst consists of 0.1-5% wt. Pt or Pd or palladium, or 1-10% wt. Fe deposited on a mordenite contg. hydrogen ions. The lubricating oil is first treated with a solvent to remove paraffin, and may also be treated with an acid. It is desulphurised to give an oil with a predetermined sulphur content. The lubricanting oil is pref. a naphthenic oil. The cation-free zeolite is obtained by treating the zeolite with an acid.
|
