526,923. Making steam superheater elements. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and ROBINSON, E. A. March 29, 1939, No. 9800. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Welded joints.-Steam superheater elements of the U-loop type for use in smoke or flue tubes of locomotive, marine &c. boilers, are made by first butt-welding mild steel tubes which form the major portions of the limbs, to short lengths of heat resisting steel tubes at the end of the loop which is nearer the furnace and after removing internal welding burrs, the short tubes are formed by forge welding into a return bend. The butt welding may be effected by electricflash welding and the forge welding by processes such as described in Specifications 355,414 ; 120,042 and 6304/15, [both in Class 83 (ii)]. The provision of U-bends of heat-resisting steel allows of their disposition closer to the furnace than usual or into the fire box so as to increase the superheat temperature without detriment thereto. Damaged elements may be repaired or elements may be lengthened by cutting off the old bends and replacing them with bends as described above. Elements having a number of limbs as described in Specification 413,506 may be similarly made. Specification 446,423 also is referred to.
|
