<p>A brass block surrounded by an electric heater muffle has parallel holes drilled close together and parallel from opposite faces. The test tube containing the sample material is placed in the upper hole and a Pt temp. sensor in a glass envelope of the same glass as the test tube in the lower hole. A glass plunger rests on the sample and holds in one position a micro switch actuator lever. As soon as the sample melts the plunger falls allowing the switch to move to its other position when the temp. read out on the digital instrument connected to the sensor is frozen at the temp. at the instant of melting.</p> |
