FIELD: chemistry. ^ SUBSTANCE: pigmented aqueous coating composition, having gloss of at least 75% after setting, contains i) a non-cross linking aqueous dispersion of an addition oligomer with average molecular weight of 5000-15000 Da and Fox Tc higher than 0C and lower than 50C, ii) an aqueous dispersion of an addition polymer with average molecular weight greater than 53000 Da and Fox Tc higher than 10C and lower than 40C and average particle diametre smaller than 150 nm, and a pigment. The ratio i):ii) is between 0.25:1 and 2.7:1 in terms of wt % of solid substances. The invention also describes a method of applying a coating onto a base using the pigmented aqueous composition; a method of producing a non-cross linking addition oligomers with average molecular weight of 5000-15000 Da and Fox Tc higher than 0C and lower than 50C, use of a combination of a polymer with average molecular weight greater than 53000 Da, Fox Tc higher than 10C and lower 40C and average particle diametre smaller than 150 nm and a non-cross linking addition oligomer for obtaining an improved pigmented aqueous coating composition.
