PURPOSE: An electronic ballast and a method thereof are provided to induce the rapid discharge of an intermediate circuit voltage by additionally operating a bridge circuit after turning off a switch. CONSTITUTION: An input part comprises a first input connection part(E1) and a second input connection part(E2). A load circuit comprises a first output connection part(A1) and a second output connection part(A2) in order to be combined with a discharge lamp(La). An intermediate circuit capacitor(C30) is combined with the input part of the load circuit. A transformer(14) is combined between the input part of an electronic ballast and the intermediate circuit capacitor. A control device(10) drives a transformer switch(S20), a first bridge switch(T1), and a second bridge switch(T2).
