The method involves taking a high refractive index (HRI) type heat transferable film (7) e.g. holographic film, and marking an identifier on a transferable zone of the film by laser engraving. An authenticator constituted of the identifier and the zone is transferred on an object or a document to be authenticated. An image of the authenticator is stored in a database to control authenticity of the authenticator. The identifier is composed of a unitary number associated to an anti-copy mark. An independent claim is also included for an element for indirect identification and authentication of objects or documents.
