PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized engaging device which enables locking and unlocking without the need for bothersome operations. SOLUTION: This engaging device includes: a displacement member 150 which is displaceably supported relative to a first member and which is pushed by an engaging piece 103 so as to be displaced in a predetermined direction from the initial position of displacement; a ratchet gear 160 which is meshed with a claw provided on the displacement member and rotated depending on the displacement movement of the displacement member in the predetermined direction; a ratchet mechanism portion 180 which restricts the rotational direction of the ratchet gear to a rotational direction set by the displacement movement of the displacement member in the predetermined direction; a return mechanism 190 for returning the displacement member, which is displaced in the predetermined direction by the displacement motion, to the initial position of the displacement; a hook member 220 which is swingably journaled on the first member, and which locks or unlocks the engaging piece depending on the swing position; and a cam mechanism portion 230, which swings the hook member to the locking or unlocking position of the engaging piece, depending on the rotation of the ratchet gear.
