<p>Drilling fluid contains (a) dispersed clay solids and (b) as a dispersant, a substd. dihydroxybenzene cpd. chosen from 1,2-dihydroxybenzene substd. in 4-posn. by 1-8C alkyl, NO2, Cl, formly, or 21-carboxyethyl-, 4-methyl-5-chloro-, 1,2-dihydroxybenzene, 2.5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone, 2,5-dihydroxy-3,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone, 4,5-dihydroxy-1,2-benzoquinone, 4,5-dihydroxy-3,6-dichloro-1,2-benzoquinone and their mixtures. (b) is present in an amount to reduce the viscosity of the drilling fluid. Used for drilling wells through sub-surface formations.</p> |
