<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sensor which prevents the damage of a sensor element when a holding member or sleeve made of ceramic is inserted in the sensor element to hold the sensor element to a main metal fitting. <P>SOLUTION: The sensor 1 includes the platelike sensor element 10 extending in its axial direction and having a detection part 10a at its leading end, the holding member 21 made of ceramic surrounding the outer peripheral surface of the sensor element and having an insertion hole of which the cross-sectional area is larger than that of the sensor element, the cylindrical main metal fitting 2 having the locking part 9 for locking the holding member formed thereto and internally housing the sensor element and the holding member, the powdery fillers 22 and 23 arranged on the rear end side of the holding member and allowed to fill the gap between the outer peripheral surface of the sensor element and the inner peripheral surface of the main metal fitting, and a sleeve 30 made of ceramic pressing the rear end sides of the powdery fillers to the holding member while surrounding the outer peripheral surface of the sensor element.
