PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device for reliably detecting the failure of a processing task to be executed by software without applying any load on a CPU. SOLUTION: The semiconductor device includes: a task state memory 10 for storing an execution state of the processing task of software to be executed by a CPU 2, and for output of an execution state signal 202 showing the execution state of the processing task; a task normality decision part 21 for acquiring an interrupt signal 201 to the processing task to be output on the basis of the control of the CPU 2 and an execution state signal 202, and, when the processing task is normally executed, for output of a signal 203 under a normal operation; a clear output part 22 for output of a clear signal 204 on the basis of the signal 203 under the normal operation; and a watch dog timer 30 for, when the clear signal 204 is acquired within a prescribed time, clearing a timer count value, and, when the clear signal 204 can not be acquired even after the lapse of the prescribed time, for output of a reset signa 205 to a CPU 2.
