The method involves adjusting vehicle driving speed selected by a driver of a motor vehicle using a vehicle speed control (8). The vehicle speed control is deactivated during operation of clutch (3) and subsequent changes in a stepped gear (4) e.g. manual transmission, which is driven by an internal-combustion engine (2). The vehicle speed control is subsequently activated with the originally selected speed. The traction resistance of the motor vehicle is computed. The required engine torque is calculated after gear change from the computed traction resistance.
