PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image extraction device, display device, image extraction method, program and recording medium which can extract from a moving image a still image not allowing for face image detection along with a still image allowing for face image detection. SOLUTION: A face orientation determining means 17 determines face orientation on a target image by utilizing face orientation of a still image whose face orientation is most recently determined among still images stored in an image accumulating means 15, through, for example, first face orientation processing or second face orientation processing. Then, the face orientation determination result is associated with the target image, and stored and accumulated in the image accumulating means 15. A face orientation transition determining means 18 extracts N still images stored in the image accumulating means 15 when transition of N face orientations as the face orientation determination results stored in the image accumulating means 15 matches either of first face orientation transition format and second face orientation transition format F2.
