PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image size from becoming small, when pixel addition is performed in photographing in an electronic camera, under the condition that shaking correction is not required. SOLUTION: When an auto-photographing mode is set (S116;YES), under a set prescribed photographing condition (S118;YES), an image sensor is driven under a normal readout mode for reading out in order imaging signal charges of all pixels of the image sensor (S119). Furthermore, it is determined whether a shaking reduced photographing or sensitized photographing mode is set (S125;YES) and under the set prescribed photographing condition (S118;NO), in accordance with a photometric value obtained in photometric processing of S114 and the photographing condition set in S109, a pixel addition magnification of the image sensor is calculated and an exposure time is reset (S127). Next, after switching to a vertical & horizontal addition and readout mode for adding and reading out imaging signal charges of pixels of the same color in vertical and horizontal directions of the image sensor, the image sensor is driven (S129).
