PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption in a bad condition while decoding an LDPC (low density parity check) code in a good condition.

SOLUTION: An LDPC decoding section 11 receives an LDPC code and decodes the received code. A BER (bit error rate) calculating section 32 calculates a BER as state information as an index indicating the communication state that affects the power consumption in decoding, on the basis of the LDPC code and a result of decoding of the LDPC code by the LDPC decoding section 11. A control section 41 controls the frequency of the LDPC decoding by inputting a decoding enable signal into the LDPC decoding section 11 on the basis of the BER calculated by the BER calculating section 32 and a count value of a frame start counter 42. The device is applicable to a receiver for receiving an LDPC code, for example.
