PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can maintain its high suction power over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes a dust collection case 3 which is arranged upstream of an electric blower 2 and introduces air including dust sucked from a suction opening 6 by the electric blower 2, a filter 13 which is arranged in the dust collection case 3 and collects the sucked dust, an opening 20 which communicates the inside of the dust collection case 3 and the outside air, a first opening and closing means 21 which opens and closes the opening 20, and a second opening and closing means 25 which is arranged on the upstream of the first opening and closing means 21 and opens and closes a passage of suction air. When the electric blower 2 is sucking, after the first and second opening and closing means 21 and 25 are both closed and the pressure in the dust collection case 3 is further lowered to a negative pressure, the first opening and closing means 21 is opened at least once and dust attached to the filter 13 is removed by outside air stream which inflows from the opening 20 by the difference in pressure between the inside and the outside of the dust collection case 3. In this manner, the vacuum cleaner hardly decreases in suction power even after sucking a large amount of dust and can maintain its high suction power over a long period of time.
