The method involves simulating compression of a two-dimensional image of a patient based on adjusted parameters of the image, and visually representing the result of the simulation. The quality loss to be expected is made recognizable by the visual representation at an indicator i.e. monitor, during compression with the adjusted parameters. The simulation is again performed, when there is a change in one of the parameters. The simulation result is visually represented in a visual manner. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for executing a method for producing an application-optimized representation of a two-dimensional image of a patient (2) a computer program product for performing a method for producing an application-optimized representation of a two-dimensional image of a patient (3) a storage medium for performing a method for producing an application-optimized representation of a two-dimensional image of a patient.
