PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly join glass substrates having surface roughness in an order that is easily achieved. SOLUTION: Upon directly joining a first prism 21 and a second prism 22 without using an adhesive, first, a glass thin film 24 having the same main component as that of the second prism 22 to be joined to the first prism 21 is formed on the gradient surface 21a of the first prism 21. After the glass thin film 24 and a side surface 22a of the second prism 22 are firmly attached to each other with distilled water 31 interposed therebetween, the distilled water 31 is vaporized to integrate the first prism 21 and the second prism 22.
