PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which excels in driving stability and can be driven at a low driving voltage by an organic electroluminescent element material which is soluble in various solvents, has high electron transportability, and does not easily crystallize. SOLUTION: A nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein X<SP>1</SP>to X<SP>3</SP>are each carbon or nitrogen, provided that any one of X<SP>1</SP>to X<SP>3</SP>is nitrogen; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>3</SP>are each an organic group; L<SP>1</SP>is an aromatic group; n is an integer of 2-6; m is an integer of 0-4; p, r, and s are each an integer of 0-4; and Ar<SP>1</SP>is a group selected from aromatic hydrocarbon groups).
