PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make first and second recording heads go up and down by a small drive force. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus which includes a first carriage equipped with the first recording head, a second carriage equipped with the second recording head and a drive source, the first carriage includes a first drive transmission means by which a drive force from the drive source is transmitted and a first head rise/fall means for making the first recording head go up and down by the drive force transmitted by the first drive transmission means. The second carriage includes a second drive transmission means by which the drive force from the drive source is transmitted and a second head rise/fall means for making the second recording head go up and down by the drive force transmitted by the second drive transmission means.
