<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system compatible with an automatic translation function, which enables a speaker to confirm the state of voice recognition when registering information about the voice uttered by the speaker and can perform accurate translation during telephone communication between the speaker using a first language and his or her communication partner using a second language. <P>SOLUTION: The telephone system 1 compatible with the automatic translation function includes: a voice recognition part 19 for recognizing a voice in Japanese as characters in Japanese on the basis of information about the voice uttered by a preliminarily registered speaker; a translation engine part 20 which includes an electronic dictionary part 21 having dialect dictionaries 21b corresponding to dialects included in Japanese and converts characters in Japanese to characters in English; and a control part 13 which controls a speaker 12b to notify characters in Japanese so that the speaker can confirm them, when registering information about the voice uttered by the speaker.
