<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which controls the field of view of display between a wide view and a narrow view. <P>SOLUTION: A surface light source 9 includes a deflection means 10 for emitting light deflected by a plurality of arc-shaped deflection surfaces 14 formed in a concentric circle shape, a first light emitting element 25a at a center part of an incident part 12 thereof, and two second light emitting elements 25b at positions shifted from the center of the incident part 12. The surface light source 9 is configured to radiate first illumination light having an intensity distribution wherein intensity of front light is higher than the intensity of inclined light when the first light emitting element 25a is turned on, and second illumination light having an intensity distribution wherein intensity of inclined light is higher than the intensity of the front light when the second light emitting elements 25b is turned on. A display image data signal is applied to each pixel of a liquid crystal display element 1. The first light emitting element 25a is turned on in synchronization with application of the display image data signal when the narrow view is selected. The first and second light emitting elements 25a and 25b are simultaneously or alternately turned on in synchronization with application of the display image data signal when the wide view is selected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
